Kōwhai are one of the most recognisable flowering tree’s in Aotearoa and are widely distributed amongst both mainland and outlying island. It is part of the legume family and is one of our few deciduous trees. Kōwhai are an importance food source for many of our native birds, Tūī, Korimako, Kākā and Kereru to name a few.
