Pakohe and Pakake Bone Toki
Pakohe and Pakake Bone Toki
This contemporary inset Toki combines both Pakohe and Whale bone together using a rebated inset which has been friction fitted and glued. This is a lengthy process but it makes the inset fit perfectly which in my eyes makes it more of a legacy piece.
Toki or Adze were the Swiss Army Knife of the stone age and were used to harvest timber, work it and to ornately carve it, not just in New Zealand but all around the world. This has made Toki/Adze a symbol of strength and importance in many cultures mythology and everyday life.
Due to this piece being partially made from whale bone this can only be shipped within Aotearoa/New Zealand
