Grey Ghost
Grey Ghost
The Grey Ghost is one of the pieces that I put into Te Tuhi o Te Whenua at the Nelson Provincial Museum. This beautiful exhibition on Pakohe/Argillite featured Taonga from around the country and a small selection of modern and contemporary pieces from a selection of artists. This piece is dubbed the "Grey Ghost" and is influenced by the South Island Kōkako battling extinction. The South Island Kōkako was thought to have gone extinct around 1967, but there have been many claims of sightings and hearing their distinctive song since. This piece is made using Uriuri Pakohe for the body and wings while the head is made from Marutea Pakohe with Uriuri eyes and a small breast feather made from Cow bone. This piece is constructed using epoxy and should be taken off when entering hot water to preserve the integrity of the epoxy.
Made from a beautiful Uriuri and Marutea Pakohe/Argillite from Whakatū/Nelson from the top of the South Island
